Baby Jacob ~ Rejoice with your family in the beautiful land of life! {Melbourne Newborn Photographer}

Oh how I love what I do... I photographed baby Jacob's older cousin Isaac early this year, so I was excited when I heard news that little Jacob had arrived and that his parents were eager to get some images of their firstborn son.

I get a little lost in the sweetness when I begin photographing and it was no surprise that Jacob's session seemed to fly by for me. He seemed to cope with being moved and posed once he got into a dreamy slumber, and for the little while where he refused to close his eyes I was able to capture a couple of gorgeous images as he gazed in the camera.

I used to avoid capturing images with baby's eyes open but I'm beginning to love these moments, and my clients seem to agree. And Jacob has the sweet baby eye gaze mastered, it melted my heart.

(Lucky there are no more children planned in my home... this job can make a photographer quite clucky.)

Enjoy.

So chuffed right now...

It's so nice to receive recognition, so I was chuffed to find out I was nominated for Emerging AusMumpreneur of the Year in The 2012AusMumpreneur Awards presented by Connect2Mums.

Naturally when being surprised (and honored) by a nomination in any awards celebration I instantly wondered "who nominated me?" I didn't have to wonder for very long, after blurted my excitement to my hubby he fessed up and told me it was him... what a sweet man I am married to. (Either that or he's wanting to make sure I get publicity and more work so he can retire early. LOL)

So it is with great pride (now I've sent my submission talking up Emily Black Photography) I can say I am an "award nominee". I love what I do, I wouldn't be throwing my energy into it if I didn't love and believe in it, but, as with everything in life, it's nice to get a pat on the back and a little gold sticker for all the effort.

Master Mitchell ~ All babies need a lap {Melbourne Newborn Photographer}

Sweet Master Mitchell, what a pleasure he was to photograph.

It surprises me that at most sessions I arrive at I am greeted with a comment of "I'm not sure how he'll co-operate." The truth is, most babies co-operate, though sometimes the photo plan I have in my head needs to be altered. Mitchell eased right into it, I barely even had to pose him to begin with, he just looked so calm and comfortable I started snapping away just as he lay there... this also gave me a little time to be able to catch up with Mitchell's mum, who I worked with at the local newspaper for many years. It's so nice to be able to blend work and pleasure, though photographing newborns hardly seems like work, I love it so much.

Enjoy, xo.

Baby Andrew ~ Sometimes the greatest gift is the biggest surprise. {Melbourne Newborn Photographer}

I love chatting with mum's as I set up all my gear for our sessions, you can learn a lot in those first few minutes, before bub is even set up into his or her first pose. As I was chatting to Andrew's mum, while she was multitasking; baby in one arm, wiping the table and getting a cuppa ready she mentioned that Andrew was a little surprise... a very welcome and adored surprise, but still a surprise. Just as it seemed life was all planned out and all the baby gear had been handed off to other mum's she discovered her own little cherub was on the way. What a special little man he is too...

Little Andrew eased into the session without too much fuss, allowing me to do some of my favourite poses, simple, clean and all about the bub. I loved his little "tornado" curl of hair, which his mum tells me all her children have. I just hope he's not too much of a "tornado" as he grows up and doesn't cause his mum too many sleepless nights.

Meet Andrew...
Enjoy xo

The Knight and his Bride ~ {Melbourne Wedding Photographer}

Each wedding is so different, and so unique, that's what makes photographing them such a thrill... I love to see the bride for the first time, and there's something particularly special when it's a friend.

For as long as I've known Julia, she's never been one to do what's expected, so I knew her wedding would be special, about her and her partner Peter. She has referred to him as her 'knight' ever since they met, and he truly is the chivalrous 'knight' she described.

They each have their own stories, but the new 'fairy tale' they are writing together now, is looking like the ending will surely be "happily ever after".

Enjoy. xo
